Marketing Your Small Business

I have long wanted to put vinyl lettering on my car to support my growing photography business.  But to be honest, I assumed it was expensive and needed to be professionally installed.

But my friends at Build A taught me otherwise.  Not only is most vinyl lettering under $40, but they send detailed instructions for installing it yourself.  And it gets better... they sent me a free sample in exchange for giving you guys my honest opinion. So here goes...

The website is awesome.  You design and customize to your own specifications. You can preview how it will look. Couldn't be simpler or or more affordable.

The package arrived quickly, rolled up in a firm canister to avoid damage.  The instructions were as claimed, detailed and easy to follow.

We cleaned the window. Measured and taped the letters where we wanted them. And then peeled the backing...

And that part didn't go perfectly. Not even close.  But we followed the directions and used a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles.

Then...  voilĂ !

We ended up with a tiny wrinkle or two, but you can't even tell.  I am very, very pleased!

Reckon this means I'm official now.

Guess I better stop picking my nose at red lights.

What's Up Doc?

Since January 1, my family has seen nine doctors.  Isn't that absurd?! Especially for a young, healthy family.

But we are so lucky to be in good hands and have good care.  Here are our latest updates...

I saw my OB last week and the baby sounds great. Everything with my body is right on track. I began feeling the baby move over Easter weekend... well, at least for the first time that I could be sure it wasn't gas!

I am, however, covered in a freaky rash.  Doc thinks I had an allergic reaction to something.  But I haven't changed anything like lotions, soaps, detergent, etc., or eaten anything new or had shellfish... so we are stumped. First they tried high doses of antihistamine... which made me crazy sleepy, with what I termed restless leg syndrome.  Skip had to rush home to care for KG while I slept and twitched! (and tried not to scratch)  It is an angry red rash (not hives) on my legs, forearms, and a little on my belly, and it itches like mad.  Doc tried a new prescription drug and so far no relief. It just got puffier. At least, he said, the chance is minute that it could ever hurt the baby. And no, doc doesn't think it is the common pregnancy rash, PUPP.

Kherington saw her pediatrician for her 15 month check up and is a model patient. She is about 80th percentile for size and her language is advanced for her age.  But she did develop yet another ear infection... which means more antibiotics that give her a wicked diaper rash.

She also saw her hematologist for a follow-up visit.  Her iron levels and red blood cell size are both now normal! Doc was very pleased and is confident her bone marrow is working properly.  We found that Kherington did inherit one copy of the MTHFR gene mutation from me.  This doesn't mean much now.  But it means that she can never smoke and can never take birth control pills.  When she gets to child bearing age, she will also need folic acid and aspirin like I do.  But this is nothing serious and knowing this might help save some heartache when she gets around to giving us grandchildren.  {which will be wonderful! but I must say that talking about my ONE year old smoking and having sex is just eerie}

But the real excitement comes next week when we have another level 2 ultrasound with my high risk doc. I just can't wait!!! Photos coming soon!

Happy Easter!

"Oh happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away"

"Oh happy day, happy day"

"I'll never be the same
Forever I am changed"

"When I stand in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face"

"I am Yours Jesus, You are mine
Endless joy, perfect peace..."

"Celebrate Jesus is alive
He's alive...
Oh happy day, happy day!"

15 Months

KherBear! You are FIFTEEN months old today!  You are an amazing little person, learning so much so quickly.

At 15 months...

-You adore music and reading, which pleases me immensely!

-You say Mama, Dada, Uh-Oh, Sit, Bath, Up, Ball, Bye-Bye, “es” (Yes), “kkkit” (Kitty), “PUP-eh” (Puppy), “bebe” (Baby), “all-dun” (All Done), “ow-sigh” (Outside), “Sssssssssss” (Sissy or sock), “shhhhh” (Shoe), “huh uh uh huh huh” (what a monkey says), and various things that you repeat when you hear

-You get excited when you see our front gate and know we are “om” (home)

-You love to twirl yourself dizzy

-You hold my cell phone to your ear and hold 15 minute conversations

-You are in the 80th percentile for height, weight, and head size. You weigh about 25 pounds

-Your favorite toy is the dog kennel. Followed by your baby stoller, baby doll and a plastic baby doll bottle

-You pat my back when I hold you and pat yours

-You can run and climb (oh joy!)

-You will try to put your shoe on your foot for half an hour without getting frustrated

-You enjoy looking through books on your own

-You will bring anyone you see a book and crawl on their lap to be read to

-You pause in your play to give sweet “hugs” by leaning your head against us

-You bring us books, balls, babies, shoes, our phone, etc on command

-You would eat yogurt for every meal if I let you

-You also love taco meat, ice cream, green beans, nutella, whole milk, french fries, blueberries and lasagne

-You love swimming, swinging, and your puppies

-You run to the baby gate to go when I ask if you are ready to go night-night or to change your diaper

-You are still a dancing queen

-You love bouncing on the trampoline with Sissy

-You enjoy sorting and organizing things in piles

-You still love breastfeeding and nurse twice a day

-You know what to do with everyday items like combs, tissues, brooms, spoons, etc

-You deplore having your hair done and no longer tolerate bows (boo!)

-You can be independent, opinionated and easily frustrated, but you are usually very happy

-You continue to amaze us each and every day!

Mama Bear Says...

Dear Ya'll-Know-Who-You-Are,

I'm pregnant and hormonal.  What's your excuse?!

If you make one more comment that suggests a boy is the only positive outcome of this pregnancy, I might claw your eyes out.

You are welcome to a gender guess, and even to your own preference. So long as I don't hear you imply that either outcome would be less than desirable.

Maybe you are just being nice and making what you feel is a harmless comment because you think we want a boy. Or you want us to have a boy.

But it makes me feel like you think a girl is less of a prize.  A miracle.  A blessing. A beautiful gift from God that will be just perfect, because He makes everything and everyone that way.

I want this baby no matter what. It is what it is. A son would be awesome.  A sister for Kherington would be so fun!

And when you act like only a boy is worth celebrating, it makes me want to keep my adorable, precious girl(s) from you forever and ever. You don't deserve their giggly, pig-tailed company.  Because clearly they aren't as special as a boy, right?

Clearly we didn't hit the jackpot if we don't have one of each, right?

Bite me.

I'm pregnant and I can be rude.  What's your excuse?

Love, Mama Bear

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Clearly, that is not "the ugly."  In fact it is the most beee-yoootiful unborn baby I've seen in the last 14 months. ("he" is facing down, head on the right, knees to belly, hands in mouth)

The Good:
I saw the high risk doc today and baby looks great! "She" is snug and comfortable in there.  Not too keen on us poking and prodding, but I did see one cute profile shot.
Dr. McFarland agrees that I don't need the heparin!!!  Hip, Hip, Hooray!
She does, however, want to monitor me monthly. (lots of level 2 and 3D ultrasounds!)
She agrees that VBAC might be an option for me.
I feel really comfortable knowing that baby and I are in such good hands.
We should find out the sex May 3rd!

The Bad:
She is still considering me high risk.

The Ugly:
It turns out the maternity insurance we had last time was worth it.  Even without heparin, we are looking at a minimum of $1,000 a month in medical care. And then the hospital bills. ouch.

Anybody need commercial real estate, a photographer, or insurance?!   :-)

But you know what?  Look at how the good outweighs the bad!  That is because GOD IS GOOD!

Three Months

I know, I look 5 months pregnant.  But I assure you I am only 3.

That bump popped out weeks sooner than I expected.  The baby is the size of a lime, so why am I smuggling a small basketball under my shirt? Though I think it is still hidden when I wear jeans a blouse. {blouse? what am I, eighty?}
I am over the moon thrilled that we have reached three months.  But I won't lie, it's been rough. I am EXHAUSTED.  So tired, all the time.  And I need to chase a toddler this time, rather than lounge on the couch all day. But sometimes I sneak in an afternoon nap when Kherington does. {Much to the detriment of the house work.}

And I'm sick. Same as last pregnancy, maybe a bit worse.  I've only tossed my cookies a handful of times, but I feel sick most of the day.  But it could be MUCH worse, and it should recede soon, so I'm hanging in there. Among my vomit tales this time are yakking while cleaning up dog poop, and throwing up all over my dental hygienist. oops.

But I have nothing to complain about.  Our second little miracle is growing wonderfully and we are filled with eager anticipation.

I'm dying to know the sex.  Yes, I would love a son.  But I will be equally thrilled with another daughter.  Truly.  {But I think I might just be speaking for myself on that one!}

Whatever this miracle may be, it is already loved.  Three months down, Six{ish} to go!
