Breastfeeding is Beautiful

Nursing is one of the greatest joys and honors of motherhood. <3

Yes, even with sore nipples, biting, thrush, mastitis, and the doctor sticking a needle in your nipple to clear a plugged duct. {true story!}

I'm cherishing these moments.

I'm sorry I've been MIA.

Owning my own business is keeping me busy!

But man do I LOVE IT!  I'm working hard on making a few changes, upgrades, and marketing decisions. Business is growing steadily, but that doesn't mean I'm not nervous as hell about making this work.

I never dreamed I would find myself here.  And so happy and so fulfilled.  This job totally rocks.

Almost as much as being a Mom.

These crazy kids never cease to amaze me!

Kherington is whipping out complex thoughts and an abundance of personality. Her picky eating is getting much better and she is excited for summertime... namely, swimming! The moment she opens her eyes in the morning she asks to play dress up, and she goes to bed pouting that we wouldn't let her wear her blue frilly princess dress and blue plastic shoes to bed. Where did this princess thing come from!?!?

Hadley is still having ear infection issues and I believe she will be getting tubes in 2-3 weeks. She crawls, she pulls herself up to standing on occaision, and I know I keep saying this, but she manages to find some really strange things to put in her mouth.  A dead wasp was fun.

Skip is busy running the ranch, managing family and business assets, trying his hand at some building and development, and blowing off steam with golf and fishing. When we can both get away we go dancing; we just saw Don Williams for our fourth time. I hope the Gentle Giant never dies.

So though you may not be "hearing" from us much, we are alive and well, enjoying our front porch...  Watching the kids play and the garden grow and the horses graze.  {And here lately, watching the durn bull bust through the fence!}

I'm tempted to quote a Tim McGraw song about where the green grass grows, or a Lonestar song about the view looking in from the front porch.

But instead I'll just assure you that life is very, very good from our front porch. Fill in your own contented country song.

The Good Life

Happy behind the camera, I rarely get to be in any photos. But... I love family photos and I want them to preserve this special time in our lives.  So I am so thrilled that my friend Sarah Moran took these for us...

8 Months

Hadley June, eight crazy months have passed since you were first placed in my arms and forever imprinted upon my heart. Life is with you is so exciting and joyful.

My little Hippo, at 8 months:

You weigh just under 19 pounds

You commando crawl, roll, scoot, and slither anywhere you want to go. I imagine you will truly crawl any day now

You can pull yourself up to sitting or kneeling

You get into EVERYTHING

You put EVERYTHING in your mouth (no teeth yet, though)

You sleep well and eat well

You love beans, chicken, yogurt, avocado, spinach, and anything with cinnamon

You love to feed yourself- with a sippy cup and baby finger foods

You are prone to ear infections

You just started preschool and the teachers wish every baby was as happy as you are

You sign "milk"... often

You chatter... Daddy swears he hears "DaDa"

You are loved and adored!

On Family

I have always had the feeling that our family isn't quite complete yet.

I yearn for another child.

Do you think I'm crazy?

{As I write this my two year old is being a BEAST}

But I have so much more love to give!

I want the crazy, chaotic, love-filled life that many children bring.

Don't worry, we aren't ready just yet.

But that doesn't mean I don't think about it.

A third child has been on my heart this week.

We've left our options open and the discussion open concerning a biological child or an adopted child.

I am completely open to either.

Hell, I'm open to both. But I'm pretty sure my husband would have something to say about that!

I would love to give an adopted child a forever home. A family to call his own. A different face to smile out from our family Christmas card. I would love to give my adopted son the same honorable name as his adopted grandfather. I find adoption so very beautiful and the calling is there.

And yet I would love to feel a child grow within my womb again. To create another that carries our genes so that we can see the similarities and differences between siblings as they grow. A son so that people could say "oh, you finally got your boy! now you can be done" or another gorgeous girl so that they could say "three girls, you're in trouble, Dad!"

Of course there is a lot more to the decision.

Either way, I'm going to be over the moon ECSTATIC.

And either way I'm going to be a tiny bit sad.

The Family that Works Together, Stays Together

Hi. Remember me?

I've been really busy.

Is there a word that means busier than busy?

Because that's me.

Photography is only one of the things keeping me busy... which I love, but man am I swamped!

Sometimes I am so swamped that I need an assistant...

Kherington had to go with me last minute to an early morning shoot today.

She was taking her own photos, crouching down like me, saying the silly things I say, and trying to get the one year old baby to smile.  It. was. precious.

I wish I had a shot of us "working" side by side.

I've always been a supporter of family businesses.

On a related note, I've got news to share!

Thanks to a really supportive husband and family I am getting the opportunity to do photography full time!

I am so excited!  It makes me so happy and I love improving every single day.  The rewards are huge.

I will miss working with my Dad and family at the office, but I'm going to say involved and we still see each other plenty.

Time to spread my wings!
